Lonely, Lazy, Stoned & Broke

This semester, our Journalism + Design class conducted dozens of interviews with Lang students. Three issues emerged: community, money and life after graduation. What follows are Lang student stories - tales of loneliness, drug use, activism, and making it in the 'real world.'

"'Do you have a lighter?' is a much easier talking point than 'Hey! Check out that brioche!'"

Christine - New Jersey - Culture & Media

"It's hard to meet people here. It's not like we have a campus where we are interacting with other students every day."

Sean - Bangkok, Thailand - Politics

"A lot of people build their college friendships by dorming. I didn't get that opportunity"

Smoking in the Courtyard

It's a chilly day for the first of April, but in the Lang courtyard, a group of three friends laugh together while smoking cigarettes. While many students at Lang complain about a lack of community, it seems the students in the courtyard are having no trouble bonding with one another.

One of the smokers wears a bright yellow baseball cap with a matching yellow sweater tied around his shoulders. He seems cheerful despite the cool air in what's supposed to be spring time.
